What materials are included in a cable assembly?

2024-07-08

Cable Assemblies are the components of a cable and usually include the following materials:

1. conductors: these are the metals or alloys used in a cable to transmit current, such as copper and aluminum, etc. They determine the current transmission properties and mechanical characteristics of the cable.

2. Insulation: It is placed between the conductors of the cable to ensure that the current is not transferred to the neighboring wires or cables. Common insulating materials are plastic, rubber, lacquer, etc., such as polyethylene (PE), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and so on.

3. sheath material: it is wrapped in the cable insulation layer on the protective cover, mainly mechanical strengthening and corrosion protection. Commonly used sheath materials are PVC, rubber, metal, such as jute, cotton yarn, rubber strips, etc. 4.

4. shielding materials: used to increase the cable's signal shielding and anti-interference ability, common shielding materials are copper wire braid, copper tape, aluminum foil, etc..

5. Filling structure and materials: used to fill the gap inside the cable to improve the mechanical strength and stability of the cable, common filling structure and materials are jute, cotton yarn, rubber strips and so on.

6. RF Coaxial Cable assembly: Rf Coaxial Cable consists of four layers, of which the insulation layer determines the electrical characteristics and mechanical properties of the cable, commonly used materials are solid core polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and solid core polyethylene (PE).

7. New energy automobile cable materials: with the advent of the new energy era, a number of international automobile giants announced plans to discontinue the production of fuel vehicles, in which TPE, TPU, XLPO, NBR + PVC, neoprene, silicone rubber, etc. are commonly used in new energy automobile cable materials.

8. Cable core: the core part of the cable, used to transmit current.

9. Inner sheath: the protective covering layer wrapped around the cable insulation, which mainly plays the role of mechanical reinforcement and corrosion prevention.

10. Outer sheath: mainly for mechanical strengthening and corrosion prevention.

Cable Assembly material selection on the cable structure, manufacturing process performance and service life plays a decisive role. For example, the bark of the juniper tree is a good material for making rubber, and has good insulation and adiabatic properties, and is used in cable manufacturing.
